Kasino A4 Issue #6!

（日本語は下にあります）The beautiful Kasino A4 found its way to our mailbox today and what was inside? Besides, I mean, from amazing design and articles and various other forms of participation from talented ladies and gentlemen?

Overture illustrations!
We were asked to come up with drawings...that were letters...that would spell out words...and the images had to relate to the meaning of the words they were spelling.
We tried our best. Some of the words were harder than others, "suitable" in particular.
Others were not so hard. "Defecation" and "urination" especially.
Everything looks wonderful and we are extremely grateful for this opportunity!

10/20に発売された、ヘルシンキのアートマガジン「KASINO A4」の６号 ”HUMAN NATURE”に、Overtureのイラストが掲載されています。

今回は絵文字でした。それもそれぞれのタイトルに合わせたものを！との事で、なかなか苦労したんですが仕上がりはとても綺麗で感激！あとフィンランドの人達に見てもらえて嬉しい！（フィンランド以外でも販売してます）

なかなかきわどい単語もありました。
例えば"URINATION（排尿）"とか"DIFICATION（排便）"とか！描きましたよ。ええ、描きましたとも。

New Múm Video By Overture!!

Finally!! Our new animation "Rhuubarbidoo", is released upon the wild!
It is a music video for the Múm song of the same name, taken from their latest album, Go Go Smear the Poison Ivy and heralding the start of their tour.


The story of Rhuubarbidoo is concerned with the life of rhubarb stalks, focusing on their growth ceremonies in particular.
Many creatures of the forest have gathered under the protection of the rhubarb patch canopy to watch the magic of the growth dance.
Towards the center of the great, twisted rhubarb canopy support, two younger rhubarb stalk, Rhubies discuss their abilities in the art of the dance. The bolder of the two makes to demonstrate, and though she falls flat on her face, taking the first steps of the dance calls the out the elder rhubarb stalk, Rhubes, and consequently initiates the growth dance.
Five Rhubies and five Rhubes dance around the supporting knot of sinewy stalks, drawing out the depths of their sour magic until one of the Rhubies feels an awakening within her. The Rhubes gather around this Rhubie and guide the magic forward, finally releasing the Rhube within and allowing the Rhubie to grow up.
The ceremony does not end here as now there are one too many Rhubes for the next dance. The Rhubies, frightened by the transformation of their sister and the events to follow escape to the folds of the center support while the Rhubes gather around their eldest.
In a moment of intesity the Rhubes display for a briefly reveal the true face of their magic, in turn calling out and draining the spirit from the eldest Rhube.
Now nothing but an everyday, healthy stalk of rhubarb, the former eldest Rhube takes his leave of the magic canopy to join those like him in the gathering outdoor rhubarb patch.

Overtureの作ったアニメーションが、アイスランドのバンドMúm（ムーム）の新曲『Rhuubarbidoo』のビデオとしてUKレーベル fat cat recordsよりリリースされました!
この曲は彼らの最新アルバム『 Go Go Smear the Poison Ivy』の収録曲で、2分もない短い曲です（よかったよ…）。

ただいまYoutubeの"Fatcatrecords channel"にもアップされてます。

テーマはルバーブ。日本ではダイオウという名前の植物です。

ある夜に、ルバーブの根っこで行われるルバーブの子供の「成長の儀式」。
ひとりの子供が、体を裂いて大きなルバーブに成長するとき、古いルバーブのどれかが住処を離れないといけないのです。
そして、一番年を取ったルバーブが精霊である証の表情を奪われ、ただの茎となって、外の世界に出て行く…と言うストーリーです。

夏にアニメーションが完成してから、なんと長かった事か…待ったよ！
こうやって本当に世に出ると、眠い目をこすって作った事、すべて吹っ飛んでしまいますね。

fatcatのデイブ、staffのみなさん、そしてMúmのorverをはじめメンバーのみなさん、こんな素晴らしい経験を本当にありがとう〜

We got planB#26!


ただ今発売中のPlanBmagazine 26号に、イラストが掲載されています。






今回はちょっとビーチィー（？）に…という事だったので、こんな感じです。
二人の好物、女の子と恐竜が二つ揃って、締め切りが厳しかったわりにはなんだか上手く描けたような…。

個展も、もう明日で最後です。

期間中、土日は会場でずっと壁画を描いてたんですが、多くの人が展示終了後すぐにこの絵を塗りつぶしてしまう事を残念がってくれました。

もちろん次の展示のために塗り替えが必要ですし、チベット密教の砂曼荼羅の様に、完成したら壊す…それでいいと思います。

次はどこかでもっと時間をかけて、3週間くらいとか…それで大きな場所でやってみたいです。

展示終了に合わせて、秋の色々な収穫の時期が重なってきている様です。
アートマガジン、アニメーション、ジャケットワークなどなど…

あまり日をおかずに順番にお伝え出来ればと思います。

あと…HPを見るたびにため息をつく日々。
新しくしたいと思いながら時はすぎ…飽きっぽいのでしょうか。

いろいろな媒体のおかげでHPには来てくれる人が多いのだけど、どうやらそのままブログに来ることなく立ち去る人が多い模様。
最新のニュース、ここにありますよーー！と叫びたいです。年末、まとまった時間が取れたらなんとかしたいですねえ…

毎週末、土日を使って描きにきてるのですが、この日は日曜日にもかかわらず（普段、日曜日はあまり混まずにゆっくりしてます）絶えず人が来るような形で気がついたら全然描けてない…

説明したり、近況とか聞いてる間に時間は過ぎ、あっという間に夕方になってしまいました。

この日がたっぷり描ける最終日だったのになー
なんとかもうひとつの壁にも描いて、本日は終了です〜

MaMa tour

opening day

Now that so many things are going on and also wrapping up, I really need to start writing more.
On Friday our show, Matatabi Matsuri, opened at Through the Music Gallery in Brattleboro, VT. It was a great night, the weather was perfect and we had a good turn out. Josh and Sarah are amazing gallery owners and were a huge help to the last detail, even setting up a flag post on the outside of the gallery/record shop so we could hang the Overture flag!
The show is up until the 24th and we are working on a wall drawing over the course of the show so anyone able to come up please do, as we are around quite often. Especially weekends.
Then we wrapped up another PlanB illustration this morning and are beginning to clean up the massive mess that developed in our apartment since the end of summer.
There are many more tricks up our sleeves yet and hopefully I will be on the ball to offer timely enough updates!


無事、個展「Matatabi Matsuri/股旅まつり」の初日が終了しました。

オープンの5:30の前から、たくさんの人が見に来てくれて大盛況で嬉しかったです。
初日からoneonenineに掲載されたイラストのオリジナルなどが売れて、良いスタートでした。

エントランスの壁面のタイトル部分をパーティー中に描きはじめました。これはこれから会期中の週末などに何度か訪れて大きなドローイングを完成させる予定です。

残念ながら（毎度の事ながら…）カメラもビデオも持っていたにもかかわらず全く記録しておりません。今度こそはちゃんと撮らなくちゃなー。

いよいよ本日

本日よりOvertureの個展「Matatabi Matsuri」が開催されます。

今は最後の用意をしている所です。 これからギャラリーに行って、細かな準備の後エントランスになる場所でのライブドローイングを始める予定です。 （写真は昨日の模様。ちょっと描きはじめてます。）


さて”またたびまつり”というタイトルなんですが、これは猫にあげたら喜ぶ木天蓼（またたび）のことではなく、諸国を歩いて旅する”股旅”の方です。

股旅 - 近世、博徒・遊び人・芸者などが諸国を股にかけて渡り歩くこと。 三省堂提 崑膽㍊ 第二版」より

一年に一度、秋のこの時期にいろんな国から旅人（股旅）が集まり、この一年で見てきたいろんな事を話し合ったり、飲んだり食べたりして一年の疲れを癒し、新たな旅の目的を見つける祭りの場…そんな風な事を考えてこのタイトルをつけました。


今夜、会場となる町ブラットルボロでは、一年で一番大きなギャラリーウォークが開催される日なので、ギャラリーだけではなく、普通のお店もギャラリーに変身して夜遅くまで多くの人で賑わいます。

そんな日に、ブラットルボロのギャラリー人気投票で一位（！）になった場所でやれる事がとてもありがたいです。

それではまた、会場の様子などここで報告しますね。 いってきます〜
